Fully Functional Active Directory Forest (In this scenario we are running Windows Server 2008 R2).
Fully Functional DNS.
The account with which we are going to perform this action should be a member of Enterprise Admins and Domain Admins Group.
Windows Server 2012 should be a member of Domain.
DNS and AD DS role installed on Windows Server 2012.
Domain Controller : DC1.MSEXCHANGETEAM.IN
Forest Functional Level : Windows Server 2008 R2
Domain Functional Level : Windows Server 2008 R2
To start the installation. Open Server Manager and in the dashboard select AD DS. To know what option to select please go to step number 2.1 and 2.2 mentioned here.

In figure 1.5 the setup gives us an option to prepare Forest and Domain.

Upgrading Forest and Domain will not cause any downtime. It is just to welcome new Windows Active Directory Domain. This can also help in preparing for Migration to Windows Server 2012 Domains.
