In this blog we will see how to configure Storage for MailStore Server. It is very important to configure proper storage before we start Archiving Emails. By default the Storage is on System Partition. With that said lets move ahead with configuration.
Figure 1: Master Database Location
In figure 1 we can see the Master Database Location is showing as “C:\MailArchive”. Since the Master Database stores all administrative data it is important to move the database to different drive. And as you can we create any number of archive stores as per the organizations requirements.
To change the location click “Change” as shown in figure 1.
Once you click on Change you will get the below prompt as shown below.
In figure 2 it will now close the MailStore Client and it will open Service Configuration Tool.
Figure 3: Master Database Directory
In figure 3 the database location has been changed. Once the location has been changed you have to restart the service which is available on the same page at the bottom.
In figure 4 the directory contains important database and other files.

Figure 6: Standard Archive Store State
In figure 6 by default “Archive Here” state is selected.
In figure 7 we have an option to perform maintenance for the Archive Stores incase of any database issues or perform a routine maintenance.
Now lets see the options to create new Store as shown below.
Figure 8: Options to Create New Additional Store
In figure 9 we can either Attach or Create new Store as per our requirement. Standard Archive Store is recommended for most environments as per “MailStore”.
Figure 10: Advanced Archive Store
Advanced Archive Store requires Microsoft SQL Server. Which is extra cost overhead. Some organizations who already operate SQL can create Advanced Archive Store. However as per MailStore internal backup feature is not compatible.
