How to Enable Active Directory Recycle Bin in Windows Server 2012

In this blog post we will learn how to Enable Active Directory Recycle Bin in Windows Server 2012. In the previous blog we learnt step by step method on Enabling the feature in Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain. Best Practices

It is always recommended to have a proper system state backup. To know how to perform system state backup in 2008 machines please click here. Recycle bin is just an option in Windows Server 2008 R2. Once enabling this feature it cannot be reversed under any circumstances. So plan accordingly.

Scenario

Windows Server 2012 Network

Domain : MSEXCHANGETEAM.IN

DC : DC1

Domain Functional Level : Windows Server 2012

Forest Functional Level : Windows Server 2012

Steps

Go to start and Select Active Directory Administrative Center

In figure 1.2 select Local Domain and in the Tasks Pane select Enable Recycle Bin as shown above.

The way this feature cannot be disabled in Windows Server 2008 R2. Similarly even in Windows Server 2012 we cannot disable them. Plan accordingly.

In Figure 1.4 once it is enabled we have to wait for AD replication to complete. Since this is a configuration change made on Configuration Partition. If active directory infrastructure is too large with multiple DC’s then it might take a long time.

It is pretty straight forward in Windows Server 2012 Active Directory Environment.
