Unable To Move Mailbox In exchange 2013

Move mailbox has changed a lot in exchange 2013. I was looking into move mailbox in exchange 2013 and came across an issue where i was not able to move mailboxes to another database on the same exchange server. When i go to the migration tab in EAC i get the below error

Fig 1: Shows the error that we get when we go to Migration Tab in EAC

I was thinking as to what that migration mailbox is. After some research i came to know the below information. Migration mailboxes are the mailboxes that are required for any type of move mailboxes in exchange 2013. This migration mailboxes are added as  arbitration mailboxes in exchange 2013

How to check the list of arbitration mailboxes in exchange 2013

In my case the migration mailbox was disabled.

Fig 3: Shows the Migration mailbox missing

I ran the below command to see the list of mailboxes that are disconnected

Get-MailboxDatabase | Get-MailboxStatistics | Where { $_.DisconnectReason -eq “Disabled” } | ft DisplayName,Database,DisconnectDate

Once we enable the Migration mailbox the mailbox move is good

So once i enable the Migration mailbox i was able to go to Migration Tab and create a batch for the move mailbox.

Happy Learning

    Hi Phani,
Ensure that the first mailbox database is mounted and accessible. This error is most likely due to the database is either is dismounted or system attendant mailbox is not accessible.

Please read the below article for more help.
