In this article we will see how to archive emails for Exchange Server 2010 Mailbox Users. Before we start it is recommended to provision the account which will be used to archive the emails. Some important points to remember.
- The account should not have a mailbox.
- The account should not be a member of any security group.
Note: The same steps are applicable for Exchange Server 2013 and also the same logic may be applied for any other third party Archiving Solutions.
Login to Exchange Server and open Exchange Server Powershell. Type the below command.
In figure 1 we have used “arvadmin” account. Please change your account as per your organizations requirement.
Now to login to MailStore Server and open the MailStore Server Dashboard as shown below.
In figure 2 we will select Archive E-mail.
In figure 3 after selecting Archive E-mail we have to create profile as shown above. As you can see there are multiple messaging platform options available. We will select “Microsoft Exchange”.
In figure 4 as we can see there are options to select Single or Multiple Mailboxes or Public Folder or Journaling. You can test with Single Mailbox as well which is the Default one.
In figure 5 it is just a question whether we have Microsoft ADS or any other Directory Services.
In figure 6 if you would like to perform test you can select “Test Settings” as shown above or “Synchronize Now”. The above settings may differ in different Organization.
Lets select “Test Settings” and “Synchronize Now”to check the results.
In figure 7 and 8 we were successfully able to synchronize which means we are good to move further.
Now that we have created Archiving Task which is saved as a Profiles. This can be used in future for scheduling archiving or can be deleted as per the need. Deleting wont cause any data loss.
In figure 10 the settings are default. It can be modified if required.
In figure 11 we have selected “Only the following Users” by default “All Users with configured e-mail address” is selected.
